Firefighter/Medic - Akron, OH – Deep laceration on right arm
A patient put his arm through a window. The patient had a deep laceration on his right arm. Paramedics attempted to control the bleeding by securing his artery and applying pressure. When these conventional methods were unsuccessful, the paramedics ensured that the arm was dry and place QuikClot into the wound until it was overflowing out of the wound. The bleeding slowed enough that they could control the bleed with pressure and start fluid loss replacement.
